Hi everyone! I was organizing my craft supplies this past weekend and thought I might do a post on bullet journaling. If you’re looking for a better way to streamline those endless sticky notes full of reminders, appointments, and the like, look no further than bullet journaling! This method was developed by Ryder Carroll, and it’s completely customizable. He used this method to help him get a handle on things in his personal and professional life, all while having ADHD. I ended up adopting the method in college as a way for me to keep track of all of my assignments. It helped me land on the Dean’s List all while being crafty and creative. The system started out minimalist with tasks, events, and notes. It’s now evolved to allow for boundless creativity and artistic expression. You get to decide what you need and what to include. Let’s get into it!

I’m a list lady so I like to do what I call a brain dump where I write down everything that needs to get done that week including appointments, bills, plans with friends, and personal things like going to the art studio or doing some painting. I even include things like laundry and cleaning. I break everything down over seven days, so everything gets done and I’m not overwhelmed trying to check off the tasks. It’s the best way for me to stay organized so nothing falls through the cracks. I’m trying to plan a wedding and moving 1000 miles away soon. That means getting organized, so I don’t have a breakdown. I’ll save that for closer to the move and wedding date. I also love being creative with it. I practice water color painting, I do collages, write, and list what I’m watching and listening to as of late. It’s like a time capsule into your life at different times. Have fun with it. Do some stamping, stickers, washi tape, and mixed media. Mixed media is my favorite. I love doing collages with scraps, buttons, envelopes, gift wrap, and more.

Here are some supplies you’ll need to start your first bullet journal:

  • A dotted notebook, I recommend Archer and Olive
  • Markers and pens
  • Washi tape
  • Stickers
  • Scraps of paper, envelopes, magazine clippings or whatever you like to collage with
  • Stamps
  • Paints

I’m going to include a few links to YouTube channels and some supplies to help you get started and find your creative flow.

Here’s a few sample spreads I’ve done in my journal:

Bullet journaling is fun because it caters to all of us. It can be super functional and productive or it can have a ton of texture, color, and personality. My biggest tip is not making it a chore. I don’t force myself to do it every week, only when I feel like it or need some extra organization for the week. It’s not about perfection, it’s about making a system that works for you. Grab your favorite notebook, pens, and your favorite art supplies and see how fun it can be to get organized. Let me know what your method of planning is in the comments below! I have a slew of notebooks around that I fill up with endless to do lists. I need to know I’m not crazy. Until next time, have a great week!

Great tips Carly! I’m not so much into this but I do have a little ceramic martini tile in my kitchen where I list items that need to be accomplished that week or before an event or before vacation. And there is nothing like the feeling I get when I check it off! Done! Done! ✔️
